Internet services and popular social media apps were temporarily disrupted across the country, but all services have now been restored.
On the evening of January 7, access to other social media sites including Facebook, YouTube and X (the new name of Twitter) stopped, while web browsing also slowed down.

Ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s manifesto announcement and virtual fundraising telethon, users across Pakistan are facing difficulties in accessing social media platforms.
The statement added that reports of problems with the use of social platforms were received at a time when former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, PTI, was about to launch its election fundraising telethon.
PTI had announced that it will launch a virtual fundraising telethon at 9 pm as well as announce its election manifesto.
Social media users reported trouble and difficulty in accessing social media platforms after 6 pm in many parts of the country and also complained of slow internet services.
Meanwhile, PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari said the internet shutdown was aimed at preventing the party from raising funds.
Social Media Services Down
According to Downdetector.pk, internet services of Google services as well as internet service providers were affected at 5 pm but now all services have been restored.
Various people complained about not being able to access social media sites on X. It is not yet clear why internet services in Pakistan have been affected.
On Sunday evening, access to other social media sites including Facebook, YouTube and X stopped while web browsing also slowed down.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not yet issued any statement in this regard.
YouTube services are also Affected in Pakistan
According to the report, the users of social media platforms in Pakistan are facing severe problems due to the down service.
The services of X (Twitter), Facebook and other social media platforms are down for a few hours, YouTube service has also become very slow in Pakistan.
Users say that social media services are facing difficulties, uploading videos, photos and messages has become difficult while access to information is also affected.

According to the SurfShark report, after Iran and India, Pakistan tops the list of countries that have imposed restrictions on the Internet during the first half of 2023.
However, according to PTA, internet is fully restored in the country and all social media networks are active and we have not received any complaints.
